Construction of PTC heating elements

The flat, rectangular PTC-pellets are metallized on their heating surface. This electric conductive layer allows the soldering of the lead wires on the PTC-pellet, providing a robust and shock resistant connection. The contacted pellet is embedded into a silicone compound with a very high heat transfer rate and an equally effective electric insulation capacity. In accordance to the required element type, shape, application and the necessary approval we use an additional insulating foil to reach the required insulation class. The casing options are silicone or aluminium, depending on the requirements.

The advantage of our technology is that it allows fixing the PTC-pellets directly into the profile supplied by the customer. This enables us to provide as much heat as possible on a certain point defined by the customer.

Another possibility is to produce multiple-power PTC heating elements, which have a simple, user-friendly construction. Offering appliances with two, three or even more power steps provides an obviously positive marketing advantage for customers.

We find the most efficient solution for our customers because we design the elements according to their necessities while using high technology materials with best heat-transfer rates. As our PTC heating elements can be used without an additional temperature control device, it is possible to realise highly efficient heating within an extremely small space. The PTC-Working-Principle

Function Principle - The PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) is a temperature sensitive semiconductor, which is made of doped polycrystalline ceramic on the basis of barium titanate. The resistance of these thermistors increases sharply when a defined temperature is reached. This property is the reason for the self-regulation characteristic, which the PTC heating elements make use of.

Due to the special Resistance-Temperature-characteristic, there is no additional temperature regulation or safety device necessary while reaching high heat-power level when using the low resistance area. The PTC-heating element regulates the power sensitively according to the required temperature. The power input depends on the requested heat output.
